Debbie Goard (黛比高德)

This heart may be more appetizing than the pig hearts my classmates and I purchased for our heart assignment. Started off as a ‘starving artist’ who took a part time job in a bakery, Debbie Goard now single-handedly runs Debbie Does Cakes, a cake design shop which specializes in highly realistic cake sculptures that you have to see to believe. To make such realistic-looking cakes, Debbie spends a lot of time researching the subject, working from only the actual objects or photographs of […]

Joel-Peter Witkin (喬彼得·威金)

Caution: Content may be repulsive to some. My Gross Anatomy class at times reminds me of Joel-Peter Witkin’s work. Joel-Peter Witkin is an American photographer whose work often deals with themes such as death, corpses (and sometimes dismembered portions thereof), and outsiders such as dwarfs, transsexuals, hermaphrodites, and physically deformed people. Witkin’s complex tableaux often recall religious episodes or famous classical paintings. Born in Brooklyn, New York in 1939 with a twin brother and a stillborn triplet sister. When young, his parents divorced due to religious […]

Knee (膝蓋)

Second assignment in Anatomical Visualization. ¾ anterolateral view of the right knee joint in two-point perspective. After all my bad talk about this assignment, I soon sprained my knee during a mugging. Good news is that I may have free digital copies of my knee X-rays soon!

Human Bakery (人體器官麵包店)

I have craved Kittiwat Unarrom’s bread for quite some time now. Since 2006, artist Kittiwat Unarrom, son of a baker, has created bread shaped like various body parts at his Human Bakery in Ratchaburi, Thailand. In order to make them realistic, Kittiwat spent many hours studying anatomy and visiting forensic museums. At the same time, he makes his bread delicious by constructing the details of the body parts out of cashews, raisins, chocolate, and blood-like glazes. To read more about […]

David Fisher (大衛·費舍爾)

This fetal monkey with stained cartilage belongs to David Fisher, a medical illustrator employed at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, my undergraduate institution. David was the first medical illustrator I encountered and has heavily influenced and reaffirmed my pursuit of medical illustration.

Anatomy Exam I (解剖學考試)

The following is how I felt about the exam. However, the following arose from my attempt on studying. My study aid skeleton, 小骨, ate my banana.
